A dead tree stands near the canopy walkway. As I have mentioned elsewhere, tree mortality rates have shot up over the last few decades and became especially acute over the last few years. This problem is clearly seen in mature, unlogged forests or old, secondary forests. Meanwhile, people continue to clear or log even what little forests that remain, to plant vast palm oil plantations, which can be seen in the top left of the photo.
